There are approximately fifteen (15) countries in Europe currently participate in the issuance of a schengen visa. A schengen visa is a visa issued under the terms of the schengen Agreement. Schengen is a small town in Luxembourg, close to the borders with France and Germany where a number of EU countries signed an agreement in 1985 in order to facilitate free movement of persons within the EU area.
The agreement came into force in 1995. A schengen visa issued by any country under the schengen rules will be valid for travel in all the schengen countries. This means that one visa alone will enable the bearer to travel in all the fifteen (15) Schengen countries.
The United Kingdom and Ireland are the only two countries currently not involved in the schengen regime. If you have a temporary visa issued in any Embassy of the countries listed below, you may be able to enter any of the countries with a valid visa issued by only one of the countries. Please bear in mind that the issuance of the visa does not guarantee entrance to the schengen territories. You must present the necessary documents whenever you approach the port of entry.
